Questions over the safety of E-cigarettes and whether they help people quit smoking will be discussed in ITV’s Tonight programme ‘The rise of the E-Cigarette’ at 7:30pm. As they grow in popularity organisations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organisation suggest caution over their use due to concerns over quality and because they have not been subject to clinical testing. However, with many people claiming they have helped them to quit ITV’s Tonight programme asks how consumers are supposed to make an informed choice without clear information? Society member Dr Lynne Dawkins, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology from the University of East London, who took part in the programme said: “E-cigarettes are the most significant public health opportunity of our time. They offer tremendous potential to reduce the death and disease caused by smoking. In a Psychologist article last year Lynne explored the role of nicotine and non-nicotine contributions to smoking and considered quitting alternatives such as E-cigarettes.
