Questions to a Transhumanist You ask why? Why I want to transcend my limits As if they were heavy chains That make me a slave Of nature, uncaring stepmother In a meaningless universe Shed this primitive insensitive skin As an old snake And reveal a multitude Of multiwave sensors Shatter my fragile bones To replace them with Glittering unbreakable titanium Build my self wings Not just as an adornment Of my nanocarbon exoskeleton But to reach the stars That one day will nourish me And from which I will steal The secret of nuclear fusion Why I’m working late at night Connecting photonic wires Of a supercomputer That would be my new brain So I can ponder all at once The aching beauty Of a billion dancing galaxies And seed them As if they were gracious lovers Gifting them with bright eyed children Of intelligent purpose And creative meaning Why I take apart my genome Teasing away disease and imperfection So in a not too distant tomorrow I can laugh at death As the ugly witch Of a childhood scary fairytale Why I’m uploading The Bayesian map of all the connections Between the sentient beings So I can comprehend, absorb and become One with all their needs, fears, desires And be a useful tool A silent hero in cosmic void For mine and everyone else Liberation? Why? I ask you: why not?
