Quick Tempered “For an overseer, as Gods steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain.” - Titus 1:7 Anger is a tool. Anger for just reasons can be a good thing. Jesus’s anger at the money chargers cleaned out the temple. Anger for unjust reason is a tool put in the hands of Satan. We can be angry at the wrong people, for the wrong reasons and say and do things that we would never do when happy. As James says, the anger of man cannot produce the righteousness that God requires. Time is a key element between the two angers. Here Paul says “quick-tempered.” James tells us to be slow to anger. When Jesus saw what was happening at the temple, he first stopped and made a whip, giving himself time. Time allows us to get our head of straight and make sure we will say and do the things that bring glory to God. Being slow to anger is a godly characteristic. God is recounted as being slow to anger and slow to wrath and abounding in steadfast love. To be Christians (Christ-like) or Godly (God-like) we must adopt this characteristic. We live because God has been slow to anger towards us. We can show the same concern towards those whom God loves.
