Quick Tip ~ In A Tight Spot ~ Here is a couple options for striking when youre forcing a door in tight quarters, i.e. walls on both sides of the door. If youve modified your halligan by squaring off the shoulders, drop down and hit the shoulder from underneath. This eliminates some of the issues of the handle hitting the wall when youre sliding it on top of the axe horizontal, as well as the head of the striking tool hitting the jamb and/or door when youre sliding it on top, in line with the halligan. Also, when a wall is preventing you from striking the adz as you normally would due to the length of the head, remember you can turn the tool and hit with the side of the head. This reduces the profile and after making some progress setting the halligan youve cleared enough space to then turn the tool back to its normal position and continue to hit.
