Quick Tip: The Reset Deadlift The deadlift is one of the hardest lifts because you must break inertia to get the bar moving off of the floor. Many people try and increase their deadlift by doing a touch and go style deadlift. However, by doing so, they put themselves at a very high risk for injury by getting thrown out of proper position in order to keep the weight moving. This is just one of the reasons why I have my clients do reset deadlifts. Heres a few points to consider when deciding to do either touch and go or reset deadlifts. 1.) Injury risk- technique on touch and go deadlifts seems to get worse with each successive rep. 2.) Ingrained motor patterns- when you use the same form repetitively you will become much more efficient with the lift and eventually ingrain more efficient motor patterns. Thus, you will be able to lift more weight. 3.) Muscular hypertrophy- Your muscles be forced will fire harder when starting from a dead-stop rather than utilizing momentum. Hence, you create more potential for muscular growth. I have also attached a short video of my recent deadlift workout for a visual of the reset deadlift sequence. - Eric
