Quick and easy tests The right colour foundation for your face is crucial and getting it wrong can be one of the biggest mistakes many of us often make. We either stick to the base we have used for years without thinking about how the texture and colour of our skin can change as we get older and when the seasons change, etc. One of the pointers to bear in mind is which part of your body most closely matches your face in natural skin colouring. It is easy to take the wrong colour because you have tested it on your neck or jaw line or the under surface of your wrist. These spots will usually make the shade too pale. The best area to try the colour is your chest, as the colour there is the closest in texture and shade to your face. Try testing the colour in natural light too, before choosing. Trying out lipsticks, too, can be inaccurate. Simply daubing the back of your hand is wrong as the colour and texture of your hand is very different from your lips. If, like me, you are not prepared to try the tester on your lips, put some on your finger tip which is the nearest to the colour and texture of your lips.
