Quick learnings of the Friday Nighter C Group Sandbag to Victory - TopicsExpress

Quick learnings of the Friday Nighter C Group Sandbag to Victory spectacular. The title is the lesson. Bonus lesson: math is hard. Bonus bonus lesson: that can work in your favor. 3 races -snowball I predicted pain, so I snuck out, hit sprints 1 and 3, giving me 4 glorious points. Then I relaxed. Only four other riders got any points, so I took fifth. Bad part: I was tied on four points with a Phoenix Velo rider, but I didnt know, so I didnt contest the final lap placing. Bit of a dumb move. -worst elimination ever. I like elimination races like a fat kid likes cake. So I was happy, and double plus happy when the C/Novice field demonstrated they didnt know how a roll-out for an elimination goes (Protip: it goes fast), so despite being one of the last riders on the rail, somehow I was right beside Jennifer Gerth as the neutral lap ended. What up, fellow racers? I then rode the event perfectly right up until the two riders ahead surged then relaxed, Kaitlin Wood went over the top (very savvy) and I realized Kevin from Musette was boxing me into the sprinters lane the way I should have been boxing in some other rider. Noooooo! Eliminated in 7thish, Kaitlin and Jen both outlasted me. I wasnt even tired. -Scratch race The nice thing about scratch races is the only number that matters is 2 laps to go. The field shrank down to C only, so 7 riders. Everyone was content to ride the race pulling through at a moderate tempo except me: I skipped every pull, choosing instead to eat off my opponents plates. I estimated that I was the strongest sprinter in the field, so if everyone else was content to wait for the last two laps, so was I! 2 to go, and Jen validates my judgement. Just as I get ready to go up and over, she does so right in front of me. Yes I will take a free leadout! This leaves me sprinting from just above the sprinters lane, 1 to go, having done the least work of anyone in the race. The finish was not close. The hard math that worked in my favor? I forgot to check my gearing. Doh.
