Quick update- Day 1- Yesterdays surgery for the PICC line went well. No issues at all, then we checked in on the 9th floor. We went through the many rules with isolation and we are learning and adapting. I honestly couldnt be more proud of how Sam is just rolling with it all. He had another NP swab yesterday and still tested positive for the viruses, although he still is thankfully non-symptomatic. So far today, Sam has had the chemo he will get today (only 1: carboplatin) and had occupational therapy, visit from child life with some goodies and we have started his calendar. One of the rules is no more than 4 visitors a day, and matt and I count as visitors, so we must schedule as to not waste someones trip to the hospital and be turned away by the nurses, we need to do to keep him safe. But the calendar will help give him days and people/activities to look forward to. We had a great surprise care package when we got to the floor from Sams buddy Ethan and his mom. Sam is gobbling down the popcorn (Sams fav) from him. Ethan was here for clinic treatment too, so sweet! Thank you Megan! Dr. B came in today and we discussed the plans again and he was so happy with how amazing Sam looks and is doing. This transplant, while it has been done here at StL Childrens on RMS patients, is still considered experimental, but we all agree it makes sense for Sams particular case. Fingers crossed and heads bowed everyone... here it goes.
