Quicklook: Isaiah 59:1–4 According to Jewish tradition, the phrase “with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,” occurring repeatedly in the Old Testament, represents God’s power on behalf of the Jewish people. This passage about the Lord’s arm not being “too short” was spoken by the prophet Isaiah at a time when Israel was being called to turn from her evil ways. The message is still clear to us today that our Heavenly Father wants to assure us that, regardless of the devastating situations we might find ourselves in, we are never beyond the reach of God. Among the world’s religious art depicting the strong hand and outstretched arm of God, none compares with the poignant picture the Scripture paints of our Savior’s outstretched arms on the cross of Calvary. Challenge for Today: Run with childlike faith into the outstretched arms of God.
