Quiet observation from a black man in Richmond: people of European descent control most sources of philanthropic support for social change efforts. As a result growing up African American from Richmond, one finds oneself soliciting financial investment from the same power system that has systemically marginalized and disempowered the very community you come from. Consequently one finds himself in a beautiful struggle if committed to efforts of sustainable non dependent upon outside philanthropic investments revolutionary change. It requires you to become a social entrepreneur so that ones efforts are not reliant upon a handout. Only then can you truly practice kujichagulia and achieve true self determination and subsequently authentic liberation.
