Quiet-time ( By Pastor Fu ) “ To bridle our tongue, give God the reins of our heart.” My dear friends, the way we speak and use our words is a very important part of our Christian life. If it were not so, the Scriptures would not warn us about the tongue which represents words that come out of our mouths nor would it help us know of its origin. Let us look in Mathew 15:18 “ But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean.” It is clearly shown that words come from the heart. If our hearts are sinful and unclean, the words which come out will be unclean and unblessed. For this reason we must pay attention to the warning and encouragement from God’s word. Let us look in Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) “ Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” ‘The heart’ must be guarded earnestly, otherwise it will cause great damage. From our human experience we may understand and realize the arrogance of our hearts more or less. Therefore, to give God the reins of our hearts we must begin by storing God’s word in our hearts. King David encouraged us in Psalm 119:111 “ I keep your law in my heart, so that I will not sin against you.” I would like to encourage all my dear friends, if we have God’s word in our hearts, we must speak it out with love and courage. In this way we will encourage, strengthen and build the body of Jesus Christ and honor one another. But if our hearts lack God’s word, we will have the tendency to speak with our own fleshly thoughts without self-restraint by God’s word. We will speak or do things that God hates as shown in Proverbs 6:19 “A witness who tells one lie after another and someone who stirs up trouble among friends.” Therefore. we must always be aware of the importance of using our words. In love and courage I say: today and everyday do not ignore storing God’s word in your heart. Only if you do will you have good words come out which will be a blessing to others. Amen. 100213/080813
