Quilt and Scrolls Cake. I wanted every aspect of this cake to represent the birthday girl. She has a passion for quilting, so I made the bottom tier into a patchwork quilt. I included some of her roles into the pattern such as wife, mother, daughter, grandma. It was filled with lots of texture and color, some squares even being a hand painted design. She is a wonderful pie maker, so that of course is why the mini pie and rolling pin. For her years as a teacher, I included an apple and ruler (she was my third grade teacher and still my favorite). Her faith is evident in the cross and the little book for her major accomplishment in becoming a published author. Her loving husband quite often gives her roses, so they are placed as a reminder of their love. Birds are a occurring theme in their home, so sitting atop the cake are the two little doves representing a beautiful and long lasting marriage. Happy Birthday Cathy.
