Quite a can of worms was opened today – actually, it was opened - TopicsExpress

Quite a can of worms was opened today – actually, it was opened in 2010, when the Supreme Court declared that corporations are people, too. Well, they aren’t really people, of course. After all, corporations protect the individuals who form them – oh, and don’t forget the tax advantages, like being able to deduct the cost of insurance as a business expense. Also, corporations have unlimited life. Is it me, or does all this sound decidedly “un-people” like? I know I, as an individual, do not enjoy these benefits. I am a simple thinker. Today’s decision says to me that, if two people have individual but opposing beliefs, the one who owns a corporation gets to decide what’s what. It is my assumption that any two people will have some areas where they do not agree – it may be politics or religion or whatever. Everyone has some sort of prejudice, which, if exercised, might cause harm to another. Why should the person who started a company, and then incorporated it, get to call the shots. This is not about whether contraception is right or wrong. It is about severely limiting an individual’s rights when opposing the beliefs of the owners of a corporation. So Corporations, which way do you want it. Do you want to be treated differently than individuals when it comes to limiting liability and the other advantages listed above – or do you want to be treated as an individual? Seems to me that you are on both sides of the coin.
