Quite righteous night of music last Sunday at the Pho Cao - TopicsExpress

Quite righteous night of music last Sunday at the Pho Cao open-mic. It never ceases to amaze me what a varied group of talented people we get here (and at Shakers Bar and Grill on Tuesday nights). So thanks to all who played, and especially to all who were in attendance to listen and encourage. Its every bit as meaningful as the players who show up. Believe me, every player would tell you the same thing. So, in order of appearance (somewhat), Robert Hale Dukeofwail who played the opening set with me. Duke and I are doing a Blues Festival together as a duo on Nov. 7th @ 6:30 at the Eagle Mountain Golf Club. Weve played together a few times, mostly open-mics and the like. So we needed some brushing up on a few of the tunes were gonna do. Good opportunity to do them. For those who dont know him, aside fro being one of the finest harp players I know, and one who isnt afraid to incorporate a bit of technology into the proceedings, Duke is also an accomplished Autoharpist (sic), Slide guitarist, and percussionist. Expect to see him around some more. The Good Reverend Bobnoxious, Bob McCarroll, Mark Coe, Jerry Hanson, Tom Elliston, Jacque Duhame, whom I dont get to see or talk to that often, so it was more than a pleasure to accompany her and her remarkable, sultry voice, and even more fun to sit and chat for a while, Ray Hinkle and Uvon Brooks who let me sit in on a couple songs (Im gettin there Ray, Im gettin there), Shannon Trotter, who is .... well Im actually way the hell out of superlatives for her. Suffice to say that shes the real deal and you really need to see and hear her yourself, and of course Michael Hank Leigh Hawes who accepted my challenge to get together and do a Captain Beefheart song. I think I let my mouth overload my ass on that one, Hell know it, I wont... Mostly thanks to Victor Cao, because he likes, encourages, and trusts us, and most especially the Trotter clan who show up every week to support, not only Shannon, but all the rest of us too... Jim, Sharon, Gary, Natalie (who also sometimes accompanies Shannon), and Sherri Trotter who is one of the charming and honest people Ive ever met. Tx to all of you. You make me happy, and make my work (such as it is) a very interesting chunk of life. L-
