Quote: WestConnex info sessions a ‘sham’ Sarah Sharples The first two information sessions on the WestConnex motorway have been panned by those who attended them in Ashfield and Haberfield. Residents described the sessions as a sham, chaotic and a waste of time. Residents complained there was a lack of information and detail, many conversations were conducted simultaneously and WestConnex representatives gave different answars. Jozefa Sobeski, who lives on Ramsay St in Haberfield said she went to both sessions and they were “bordering on farcical”. She said there were no detailed maps or diagrams, no question and answer sessions and no time frames set out for when work would begin. “There is uncertainty, anxiety, anger, grief and people are overwrought ... as a community we must demand better,” she said. More than 100 homes are set to be lost to make room for the first stages. Residents said they had seen no traffic modelling or const benefit analysis and uncertainty remained about the location of ventilation stacks, which streets would be closed and how green space would be affected. A WestConnex Delivery Authority spokeswoman said some features were still to be finalised. By seeking feedback now they would be able to consider community views in development work.
