Quote of the Week There is nothing that you can do about your past except forget it. There is a great deal that you can do about your present and your future. You have the power of determining the rightness and harmony for your life. You can let personal experiences dominate your life or change and begin to know the truth and let the truth make you free. From Living Between Two Worlds by Joel S. Goldsmith Newsletter Article A Second Chance The Bible story of Jonah begins with a man being given instructions by God to let the people of Nineveh know that they needed to change. Instead of following those instructions Jonah fled in the opposite direction on a boat to Tarshish. How often have you known what to do in a given situation and run in the opposite direction? Unfortunately consequences follow our actions. Things go terribly wrong and you may be tossed around the boat of life. This happened to Jonah who was thrown off the boat and swallow by a huge fish. In other words he was consumed by his own mistake. The beauty of what many call the Mercy of God is really something that is always waiting for you. Jonah asked for forgiveness and said that he would do what he was instructed to do if he had another chance. Jonah was spit out of the fish onto the shore and proceeded to keep his word. Something happens to some people who have been forgiven. They can become intolerant of others. They refuse to have that same Mercy bestowed on others. When the people of Nineveh were forgiven there was a Righteous Indignation that arose in Jonah. He wanted the people of Nineveh to suffer consequences for their mistakes. That is very interesting. Wasn’t Jonah just given a second chance? Had he forgotten so quickly? Human nature is very interesting. We want forgiveness and mercy for ourselves and loved ones. At the same time we may not want that extended to others. The world today is full of intolerance and righteous judgment. Racial, political and religious intolerance is running rampant. None of which embraces the mercy and forgiveness that we all personally desire. In any journey, we must always start with the first step. Our pathway to universal peace begins with our own personal tolerance and forgiveness to someone or something outside of our personal sphere. The Mercy of God is always providing you with an infinite number of opportunities to start again. Now it is your turn to be kind to yourself and others by forgiving and giving a “Second Chance”.
