Quoting Sane Energy Project: Please comment on this article, which explains that replacement of gas pipes will cost $10 Billion and take 3 decades. Our published comment: Three decades to replace aging infrastructure for a dangerous, polluting fossil fuel that will a) run out, b) create a faster rate of climate change than coal, c) cost ratepayers for the pleasure of bringing radon from marcellus shale into their kitchens? Heres a better idea: Instead, why dont we actually MODERNIZE our energy system? Lets start by retiring these old pipelines, make this the LAST GENERATION of fossil fuel infrastructure and start getting serious about replacing it with renewable energy sources. There are multiple studies, including The Solutions Project, which outline how New York State could be FULLY renewable by 2050, with a significant portion of the work done by 2030. THAT is the goal PSC and ratepayers should demand. (Share if you like this post!)
