Quran 1 and 2 Anyone have studied the Bible before reading the Quran readily sees the influence of misconceptions, legends and traditions upon those who compiled the Quran from the writings of the Bible (its major source of divine teachings). Here are some examples from 1. Al-Fatihah: The Opening 1:1-4 In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. All the praises be for Allah, the Rabb (few meanings are: Master, Owner, Sustainer, Guardian) of the worlds. The Gracious, the Merciful. Owner or the Day of Judgment. Compare that with the Word of God: Genesis 1:1-5 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. The Quran is dependent upon the Bible for basic understanding about Creation, Satan, man’s existence upon the earth. The Quran immediately establishes religious rituals to define itself and the external practices of those who would become followers. And from 2. Al-Baqarah: The Cow. 2:1-4 Alif-Lam-Mim. This is the book in which there is no doubt. It is a guidance for those who fear Allah, who believe in the unseen, establish prayers, and spend in charity of what Allah has provided for them, who believe in this revelation sent to you, which are revealed before you, and firmly believe in the hereafter. The Word of God in Genesis identifies who GOD AM, His Creation, the creation of man and woman and his place on the earth. It gives the fall of Satan as the Great Deceiver who caused man to sin and the source of hate, violence, death, destruction and every evil work. Genesis 1-3. Genesis 2:4 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens … v.7,8 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. Those who compiled the Quran mixed the Exodus stories together and the sequence of events are out of order. 2:60 Remember, when Moses asked for water for his people. Allah said: “Strike the stone with your stick.” Then 12 springs gushed out from it. Each tribe knew its drinking place. “Eat, drink from the provision of Allah, and do not act corruptly making mischief on the earth.” Exodus 15: 22 ff. - So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. … they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet … Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters. Exodus 17:1 ff. - Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin … and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?” … So Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!” 5 And the LORD said to Moses, “Go on before the people … take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” The Bible gives the significant sequence of events covering the 2,500 years from Adam to Abraham and then the 430 years to Moses and the Exodus. The Quran text gives nothing but assumes the readers already knows facts recorded in Scripture, the Word of God.
