R 15 MILLION SPENT ON LEGAL FEES IN A MUNICIPALITY FOR A NORMAL - TopicsExpress

R 15 MILLION SPENT ON LEGAL FEES IN A MUNICIPALITY FOR A NORMAL INTERNAL DISCIPLINARY HEARING! Once again a simple matter that should have been resolved in a disciplinary hearing, not having to fork out R 15 million in legal fees, have been exposed by the Public Protector in the Northern Cape! She rightfully commented and this was confirmed by other Unions that matters, more so internal matters, should not be resolved in Courts as the only people that are winning is the Advocates and Lawyers that are coining it, in doing the work, all the way to the Bank! Simply things, remands, all of which are being delegated to legal representation can be avoided if someone in the relevant Council, Province and or National Government only does what they are supposed and being paid for, to be doing in the first instance and most have their Legal Advisor being employed at an astronomical salary and perks in any case! This R15 million was spend by a small Municipality in the Northern Cape, which makes me wonder if the Public Protector had to make public what the Metropolitans, Provinces, and or National Government, and for that matter even our honourable State President have costs the taxpayers in legal fees so far – the figure must run into billions. And then I am not even thinking of Jackie Selebi, costs that will never be recovered, Shabir Shaik, etc. etc. etc. and all at the expense of the taxpayer. When is this robbery of taxpayers’ money ever going to stop to pay legal fees? Legal fees are taking the bread and butter not to mention job opportunities out of people’s mouths, yet the Government has no problem filling those overfull purses of advocates and lawyers more and more, which makes me wonder if someone is not getting a kick back on who and when to do what applies?
