R A M A D A N [The Untold Truth] #2 Today, we are going to be looking at another interesting thing about event that took place in connection with Ramadan. It will be interesting to know that Muhammed used to FAST during period of ignorance before the Ramadan fast came into being, that is not just all, it happens that the same day the Pagan arabs usually observe their fast is the very same day Muhammed observed his as well. Now, we ask, who are the Pagan arabs fasting to? remember, these are the same people the Muslims refer to as unbelievers. We read from the Hadith: ------------- Narrated By Aisha: (The tribe of) Quraish used to fast on the day of Ashura in the Pre-lslamic period, and then Allahs Apostle ordered (Muslims) to fast on it till the fasting in the month of RAMADAN was prescribed; whereupon the Prophet said, He who wants to fast (on Ashura) may fast, and he who does not want to fast may not fast Sahih Bukhari Vol 3, Book 31. Number 117] ------------- For the benefit of those who might be DOUBTING the authenticity of this Hadith, here is another narration: ------------- Narrated By Aisha: Quraish used to fast on the day of Ashura in the Pre-lslamic period, and Allahs Apostle too, used to fast on that day. When he came to Medina, he fasted on that day and ordered others to fast, too. Later when the fasting of the month of RAMADAN was prescribed, he gave up fasting on the day of Ashura and it became optional for one to fast on it or not. Sahih Bukhari Vol 3, Book 31.
