R A N T! I am very annoyed at my Dads mate, Dave! Dave was a very good friend of my Mums and admired her strength through her illness & disability. Mum had a terrible fight to get disability benefits in the 80s, I have seen her in tears at the humiliating tests they put her through to see whether she was lying about the illness that eventually killed her aged 46. It was hard enough to admit to herself how ill she was, she tried to hide it, so this was all very hard for her. Dave just saw me carrying a banner that said Stop State Enforced Slavery on one side and Death To Workfare on the other.I was merely carrying it through town to the demo site. Without saying hello, he launched into a tirade of verbal abuse, pointing his finger aggressively in my face. This is a guy that i know well but the aggression made my adrenaline levels rise all the same. Felt like punching him (soz Dad!) Dave went on to tell me that he had worked all his life Now i am sorry, but I have had enough of those who use that line as an excuse to abuse people. Its like saying to a sick person Ive been healthy all my life, and there you are lying there, scrounging! To speak that way about someone who is absolutely desperate to find work, and who would be overjoyed just to get an interview is rubbing salt into an already festering wound. Dave seems to have forgotten that I work too. See to some people, my job is not proper, as I dont work 9-5. That comes into scrounger category too. I might work a 17 hour day on a Sunday, but its just playing with paints or singing songs... not proper ysee! Dave told me about the winter of discontent where people like YOUR MOTHER were sat in the dark with candles (more pointy finger in face...) 1. How dare he use My Mum like that 2 That is exactly the thing we are complaining about! 3.Maybe Dave is ok now hes retired, but what about his grandkids, their kids?? Charlotte kindly informed him that workfare meant people working for nothing. He said... Oh i dont agree with that! I would like to remind him that it is people like Mum that I am standing up for! Those who are too ill to work and are being bullied, starved and driven to depression and suicide by the benefits system. Those being forced to work for nothing, those being forced out of their homes by the bedroom tax, those being sanctioned for missing a signing on appointment, because they attended a workfare interview arranged by the job centre themselves... yes, really! If he hadnt stomped off, I might have got the chance!! Knob And: Jobcentre G4s lunging & sneering at Charlotte through the window is not going to scare any of us off, and looked most comical.
