R B Holmes ran a photo studio at 42 The Mall Peshawar, he was the official Brit photographer for the Third Anglo Afghan War. However his Bromide hand painted colour photos, show men in mountains with jezails, depicting scenes reminiscent of the first Afghan war, which has undoubtedly haunted the British imagination. I propose to use these images in my forthcoming book entitled Afghanistan in the age of empires 1747-1863 : the great game for South and Central Asia.
