OUR THOUGHTS AND HEARTS ARE WITH ALL OF THE FAMILIES OF THESE 6 DOGS. Please be sure you read the whole story before you comment, and please keep in mind that the owners of these pups will be reading your words – support and love will go much farther than venting anger at this time. As this is posted, the dog walker in charge of the dogs is headed to the Langley RCMP detachment to make a full statement and provide all details to the RCMP. We have agreed to share Emma’s story here in detail, as she knows that many folks will have a difficult time understanding the decisions that were made. We first talked to Emma the night the dogs went missing. It was a fairly short and pointed conversation, through many tears, to gather information on all of the dogs to get the word out on our social media channels. Immediately upon talking to her and hearing what had happened, we knew we were dealing with an extremely unusual situation and that this needed immediate action, regardless of what we were up against. There were many unanswered questions that we knew could only be answered through investigation and with time, especially as the first few days passed with no confirmed sightings or solid leads. After receiving several tips, Al knew it was time to have a heart to heart with Emma. We knew that the risks were great, if Emma chose not to share her knowledge, the true fate of these dogs would never be known. Our primary concern from day one has been getting this case resolved, whether positive or negative in outcome for the families involved – not knowing what has happened is a crushing experience. We hoped that if Emma had the chance to explain her side of the story, we may be able to work with her to get this resolved for everyone. Al met with Emma today and during their conversation as the facts started to come out, Al made it clear that immediately after the conversation was finished, she would make arrangements to head to the Langley RCMP detachment to provide full details to the investigating officer and we would notify the owners. Emma has disclosed that on May 13th, all six dogs were in the back of her vehicle with the side vent windows open and water available, as she had done hundreds of times. Sometime during the outing, all six dogs perished from heatstroke. Upon arriving at the location and Emma seeing her beloved charges deceased, she went into a blind panic at the thought of notifying the families and the possible repercussions. In a complete state of shock and panic, Emma made a desperate attempt to cover up what had happened and concocted a story to explain the loss of the dogs. Emma knows that many will not understand and that there will be lots of anger. Though the details of her private life do not excuse what has happened, she had recently stopped taking medication for panic attacks due to the side effects and was under a great amount of pressure regarding personal family issues. She herself still doesn’t understand why she did what she did. There were no witnesses to what happened and as a single mom dealing with many major stresses in her life, Emma was very fearful of the consequences of coming forward. Though the whole situation is difficult to grasp, we are thankful that she was brave enough to come forward and provide the families involved with the opportunity for closure and take responsibility for what has happened.
