R.I.P Basil Jones. Stalwart of the arts in Bim. I started to compile a tribute and then saw this wonderful one by Arthur Atkinson with a painting Arthur did of Basil which is in the National Collection. Arthur says B. Jones 24x30. I painted this in 1999, now in the National Collection. Sadly, I just got the news of his passing. B as I used to call him was the rock that supported the Barbados Arts Council for many years. He was an artist in his own right and never missed a sidewalk art show... The Esplanade, Hastings Rocks or Holetown. In the latter part of his active years he devoted himself to photography and recording art shows. He could be be seen at nearly every exhibition opening and would be back later with his camera around his neck to record what took his fancy from the show. For a period of years B hung every art show at the Barbados Arts Council Gallery even though he might not have a piece in it. A huge contributor to the Visual Arts in Barbados. R.I.P. B.
