R.I.P. Robbin Williams. Deep condolences to his family, friends and fans. I just sat here shedding some tears over this loss, unsuccessfully attempting to share my song Tears (with an iPhone) unsuccessfully attempting to share my version of Over the Rainbow (with an iPhone and Internet thats too slow to unlock my private setting for it on Soundclould) and now reading over some of your comments about his death... Many people are deeply affected by this loss, and I am too. I grew up with Mork and Mindy and watched it with my mom. Some people are angry and disrespectful that he committed suicide and I understand their anger. I hope some of these people can learn to have compassion too. Not all people are built the same. Some people feel like all of the sadness and tragedy of the world comes down on their shoulders and I guess Robin Williams was one if these people. I think I understand what thats like. I feel so sad because I wish there was something we have done; I wish more if us knew what he was going through and could have had the chance to reach out. One friend wrote that Americans are strange and will grieve the loss of an actor while ignoring the many subsides in places like India. I agree with that friend. Americans are a strange bunch and I certainly have felt like a stranger in a strange land during much of the time Ive gone back there. But again, I would ask that friend to have compassion. Am I strange? Because this loss affects me. I just sat here and cried. This is what we Americans do; we alienate and shield ourselves from much of the reality of the world and allow Hollywood to sell us their version of reality so we can have a compartmentalized experience and act like we think were deep. Is this tragedy and our reaction(s) to it showing us a greater tragedy: our isolation and obliviousness to all the suffering around us? And are we (Americans) so seduced by the Hollywood/TV/pop culture version of realty because deep down we know if we let in all the pain, we too might feel that crushing feeling of the world on our shoulders? And is it really a bad thing to let in those feelings? Maybe it isnt. Maybe if we Americans, and guess all of us, would consider all the suffering of others we might change some of our actions and stop participating in things that hurt others. But right now this moment is about Robbin Williams so Im not going to go off on a rant about being vegan or something (ok; I sort of just did). Nanu nanu. Thanks Robbin Williams for all that youve given to us
