His body was found lying out front in the street. His mother, Cynthia Krohn, believes her sons death was in retaliation for a killing a week earlier, a victim she knew only as Shane. Though Trejo told her he was at that shooting, Krohn said he had nothing to do with it. Shane Jamal Stephens, 20, died in the 3200 block of Oliver Street on May 16. A Fort Wayne police spokesman said authorities found Stephens in a front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Police say Trejo, 32, was shot late May 28 as he left the house on Huron Street, off West Main Street in a working-class neighborhood. Several gunshots were heard that night by neighbors. Some witnesses were interviewed at the scene, but police have not released any details since the slaying. Krohn said her son worked for a landscaper and had lived in Fort Wayne for four or five years. The week he was shot he had planned to join his mother in Wisconsin after living with her for several months in the winter and spring of 2012-13, she said. As a young man Trejo smoked marijuana and skipped school but was never in deep trouble, Krohn said. He had changed his ways in recent years, she maintains. His Facebook page, under the nickname Woo Castello, contains many religious references. Krohn said she is frustrated with the police and the pace of the investigation. She said she has handed them the names of people there the night Trejo was shot. The case remains open and under investigation, according to Fort Wayne police. [email protected]
