R.I.P. to Herman Badillo, the first Puerto Rican born congressman - TopicsExpress

R.I.P. to Herman Badillo, the first Puerto Rican born congressman in United States history. He also served as a deputy mayor of New York City, and many believe that if not for the quixotic candidacy of Norman Mailer for the Democratic Party nomination for mayor in 1969 that siphoned liberal votes from Badillo, that Badillo(who finished a close 3rd behind Mario Procaccino and Robert Wagner) would have won the nomination, and more than likely would have gone on to win the mayoralty and become the first Puerto Rican mayor. Farewell, sir.
