R.M.WILLIAMS TO MAKE ARMY PARADE BOOTS: Defence today announced that R.M.Williams has been awarded a standing offer to supply the new Australian Army parade boot. The standing offer is the first between the Defence Materiel Organisation and the iconic Australian brand, and was awarded after the R.M.Williams boot was selected during a competitive tender process. Chief of Army Lieutenant General David Morrison said the Army was proud to be partnering with the Australian brand. “With the Australian Army’s 112-year history, it is fitting that we will now also carry over 80 years of Australian tradition in our boots,” Lieutenant General Morrison said. “Over the next three years, Army will replace the lace-up style patent leather boot with the new parade boot which is a fully stitched, elastic-sided boot with a grain leather design.” R.M.Williams CEO Hamish Turner said the contract for the Army Parade boot would support Australian manufacturing and assist in maintaining the company’s footwear production skills in Adelaide over the coming years. “The Australian Army parade boot tender is an initiative that we’re very proud to have secured,” Mr Turner said. “We are proud to see our world-class Australian made-boots on the feet of those whose job, day in day out, it is to protect this great nation and the people who reside within it and we are proud of the quality product that we will be providing over the coming years.” The Defence Materiel Organisation conducted an open tender to select a new Army parade boot. The new boot was trialled by members of Australia’s Federation Guard, who regularly wear the parade boot for ceremonial duties. It will be worn as part of the Army General Duty and Ceremonial Dress. Under the agreement, R.M.Williams will visit units across Australia to conduct individual fittings for soldiers, over a three year period commencing in October this year.
