R&R is seeking high-quality assistance with a California-based Know Your Rights in Reentry legal manual, the first of its kind in this state. We plan to publish this manual online and in print later this year, making it freely available to people in reentry as well as their advocates. We will also use this manual as the basis of legal trainings to be conducted across the state. This manual encompasses 8 sections: identification & key records; public benefits; family law; housing law; employment law; credit & debt; continuing education; parole & probation. Were seeking law students who can commit 15 hours over the next 2 months, and who have excellent primary research and cite-checking abilities. Prior expertise not required, though some familiarity with the subject matter is a plus. Some work can be done remotely. Students who complete 15 hours will receive official acknowledgement in the publication as contributors and can mention this work on their resumes. Were also seeking excellent law students to serve as law clerks in Spring 2015, as part of an externship or field placement arrangement, at our downtown Berkeley office. The position will entail legal research and writing, development of legal training curriculum, and work with clients. Anyone interested should feel free to contact me ([email protected]) and/or Sonja Tonnesen ([email protected]) with questions. More information about our work is also available at rootandrebound.org.
