R&R would like to officially introduce the Mellencamps! Jack and Diane were rescued from PACC after their fate had been determine, pre-evaluation. Jack was an owner surrender that gave him up because the ticks were out of control and the stray girlfriend, Diane, wouldnt stop coming around. Jack was scared to death and would lunge the kennel at PACC and sincerely threaten to bite. Diane would wait for you to reach for her and also offer to remove a finger or too. It was pretty obvious that these dogs, although an existing behavioral problem could exist, were exhibiting stress from the surrender and to the environment. When was successfully removed from the kennel, Jack greeted his human by freezing and urinating (the author of this post and at least one tech were greeted by this warm welcome) but the offer to bite was retracted. Diane is definitely more of your standard issue teacup chi where the offer to bite is made when the human offers to pick and prod. She also offers to bite when she thinks you might be attempting to remove her from the comfy lap shes shacked up in. Jack is still quite fearful but as you can see from the pics, he gives kisses when you approach the kennel. Shame he didnt understand that offering that same behavior at PACC would have kept him from the risk of death that was made quite apparent :( The Mellencamps visit the vet tomorrow and they may be altered at that time to reduce the risk of needing to buy pink houses to raise a family. Tonight they feast from Kongs and observe cats from a safe distance. These beautiful babies do need some training (all R&R dogs come with a few basic obedience commands), especially with regards to recall; then they will be made available for adoption. No decision has been made as to whether or not they need to be adopted together but that may be the case. Size wise, the two together hardly equal one dog so potential adopters should give serious consideration to doubling their pleasure and doubling there fun!
