R13 U14 Sunday, 13th July 2014 CSFC U14s vs Wyndham Suns CAROLINE SPRINGS 0.0 0.1 0.1 0.3 (3) WYNDHAM SUNS 3.6 6.9 11.14 16.19 (115) BEST Max, Riley, Ash, Shareef, Tyrece, Ethan GOALS - Our last home game for the season was always going to be a tough one against premiership hopefuls the Wyndham Suns. The return of our captain Max, meant we could return to our usual structure. We were also missing J-Mac and Jack who are both a chance to return for our last game. Wyndham piled on the pressure early but our defense stood up and held them to just three first quarter goals. Our efforts to repel with counter attacking football fell short at our half forward line, with the bigger, stronger bodies of the Suns rebounding easily. This was the story of the day, despite another solid second quarter effort, the Suns had too many winners all over the ground. We tired badly in the second half and the floodgates opened, whilst we were still competitive in the middle and in defense we struggled to get fluid entry into our forward line and for the first time this season we were held goalless. In all a disappointing day for the team despite some solid individual performances. Next week’s final round against Newport Power is an opportunity to finish the season on a positive note, but it won’t be easy and we need to bring our “A” game. A special thanks to the helpers today, Gayle Arara, Richard Schembri, Rienhardt Suhren, Xhulio Hoxhalli, Peter Slingsby, Annie Lennard, Jayden & Cody Young, Matthew Martello, Brett Schofield, Josh McQuade & Vicky Martello DEFENSE A solid performance by the backline today under some real pressure. Our decision making was questionable early but we turned this around by the second quarter and performed admirably for the rest of the game. Jayden was getting to the ball easily, but dropped simple marks early. He did redeem himself by the second half. Jake was great today attacking everything and providing a real contest. His Blues Brother, Lano, started slowly, but found a lot more of the footy from the second quarter onwards. Miller’s attack on the ball was exemplary and his tenacity at the contest was solid. Ethan led the defense and between he, Cade & Riley (who played loose in the second half) they limited the scoreboard damage. MIDFIELD With Max returning to the midfield this week we dominated the ruck contest and many of the midfield battles. He worked tirelessly to get his team into the game. Shareef was a workhorse today but the scars of a long season started to show towards the end of the third quarter. Tyrece also battled hard (as always) today, getting knocked about from pillar to post but never giving up. Tereik was serviceable all day and had some moments of brilliance. Michael, Bailee & Ash all had a go on the wing, each of them bringing some pace and ball movement to our attacking efforts. FORWARD Our forward line really didn’t kick into gear today. The opportunities were limited but we seemed flat footed and worse yet uncompetitive at times. Jordan, Kyle and Antonio all presented well but couldn’t get enough of the ball to make any impact. Kurtis tried hard but also couldnt really make a mark on the game. We tried a number of different options with Riley, Tyrece & Bailee deep in the forward but the ball just wasn’t making its way down there often or long enough to make any scoreboard impact. In all a disappointing day for our forwards. A tough day and the scoreboard reflected the difference between the two teams and our effort. We suffered our heaviest defeat for the season and for the first time went goalless. Things can only get better from here and we need to focus our training this week and the last 80 minutes of football next Sunday.
