R2 MODERATE RADIO BLACKOUT FLARE EVENT FROM REGION 2242 Region 2242 produced a R2 Moderate radio blackout (M8 X-ray flare) at approximately 17/0451 UTC (16 December at 11:51 pm EDT). This event had associated radio signatures that suggest a coronal mass ejection (CME) could possibly be associated with it, but forecasters must wait until additional imagery becomes available to be certain. Once this information is received, it will be analyzed to determine whether a CME actually departed the Suns corona and, if so, if it will impact the Earth and when. Once the forecasters make that determination, appropriate Watches, Warnings, and Alerts will be issued (if warranted) and this site will be updated. Stay tuned here for updates.
