RABUN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE: THEFT BY TAKING DECEMBER 6, 2014 On Wednesday November 26, 2014 at 0354 AM, Rabun County Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting business checks and discovered a suspicious vehicle at the Golden Memory Auction in Mountain City. The vehicle observed was a red Chevrolet truck backed in between two U-Haul trucks with no lights on. As Deputies checked the front of the building to ensure there was not a burglary in progress, the truck exited the parking lot and into the roadway. Deputies returned to their vehicles and initiated a traffic stop on the truck which was occupied by a male and female. After receiving conflicting information as to the reason why they were at the business at that time of the morning, an investigator was dispatched to the location. A further investigation revealed one full gas can and one partially filled gas can in the bed of the truck. A gas cap from one of the U-Haul trucks was located on the ground adjacent to a finished cigarette in the parking lot of the business. At that point, the driver of the truck confessed to the theft. Arrested at the scene was 52 year old Curtis Lamar Nix of Scaly Mountain, NC. Nix was transported to the Rabun County Detention Center and booked on one count of misdemeanor theft by taking.
