RACE PREVIEW: TEAM WD-40 TARGET CADWELL PARK OVER BANK HOLIDAY The British Superbikes Championship heads to Cadwell Park this weekend with Team WD-40 eyeing a Bank Holiday bonanza, intent on continuing their second half of the season charge. Tommy Aquino will aim to continue his blistering form in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 where he will compete along with team-mate Jon Railton, while teenage talent Joe Francis will be hoping his title quest remains firmly on track in the Monster Energy British Motostar Championship. All three riders are in action at the Lincolnshire track in practice and qualifying over the weekend before race day on Monday. Back-to-back podium finishes from Californian rookie Aquino has provided compelling evidence he has truly acclimatised to UK racetracks and conditions on the GR Motosport-prepared Kawasaki ZX 10r bike. He has finished second at Brands Hatch and third at Oulton Park in his last two outings, results which have seen him climb to seventh in the championship. “The last month has been absolutely fantastic for me,” said the 21-year-old. “I feel as though I’ve been improving throughout the season and to get on the podium twice is a massive boost heading into the last four meetings of the season. “The next challenge for me is to try and get that first win and I don’t think it’s too far away. There is a great feeling within Team WD-40 and hopefully we can continue the good results at Cadwell Park.” Railton is heading to his home track and hoping to enjoy a weekend of pain free-racing. After getting in the points at Knockhill and Snetterton, a niggling knee injury has prevented the Huntingdonshire rider from firing on all cylinders. “The last couple of meetings have been tough because I haven’t been 100 per cent fit,” said Jon. “It has restricted my performance and been frustrating not to reach my full potential. “But I’m hoping my injuries are fully behind me now and I can look forward to a strong end to the season. “Top 10 finishes are very much my aim over the last few meetings.” Francis, from Backford near Chester, will be defending an 11 point lead at the summit of the Monster Energy British Motostar Championship . The ultra-consistent 15-year-old has yet to finish off the podium at any of the meetings so far this season. “It’s great to be still leading the championship at this stage but there is still a long way to go,” he said. “The other guys will be pushing hard to get past me but everyone at Team WD-40 is giving everything to trying to be in top spot at the end of the season so hopefully all the hard work will pay off.” Team WD-40 manager Brent Gladwin said: “We’ve had an excellent last two meetings and it would be fantastic if we can get more podium finishes at Cadwell Park. “Tommy and Joe are riding very well and I think we will see the best of Jon now that his injury problems are behind him. “It should be an exciting end to the season for the whole team.”
