RACIST SEALS? This news item keeps popping up, and upsets me, because there is zero evidence that this has anything to do with racism. All we know is a) that the pup is black, b) this is rare, and c) the pup is injured. This is very little evidence to make the claim in the title. We dont even know which species made the injuries. It may have been its own kind, but seems more likely a predator. Perhaps his mother got killed. Generally, animals dont care about color. We have white ravens, albino raccoons, and at some zoos spider monkeys of many different color varieties live peacefully together. Dogs come in many sizes and colors: no problem! In chimps, we sometimes have light brown individuals among the usual black ones, and I have never heard a single report of exclusion. Simply put, this story in the Daily Mail is without supporting evidence, and is in fact unlikely given what we know about animals. I am afraid that racism is a typically human affliction.
