A celebration of life service for longtime Los Angeles Unified School Board Member Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte are scheduled for Saturday, December 21st, 9am at Saint Brigid Catholic Church. Our Weekly reports Ms. LaMotte died at the age of 80, December 5th, while in San Diego for the annual convention of California School Boards. The newspaper reports Ms. LaMotte will lie in repose Thursday and Friday, from 9am to 7pm, at Angelus Funeral Home on Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles. A public memorial is planned for Saturday, January 18th. The L.A. Times reports the retired administrator’s determined efforts, spurring underachieving students to scholastic excellence, earned her a, sterling reputation, for triggering scholastic improvement. In addition to her accomplishments improving student performance, she was featured on NBC Nightly News, and other national and local news television programs, which focused on extraordinary scholastic performance and student behavior, under her leadership at various secondary schools in Los Angeles.
