RAEF put smiles on faces of widows By JIDAUNA DARING, PLATEAU State branch of the Rock of Ages Employment Foundation (RAEF), a non-profit making, non religious and non ethnic organization has donated over 300 bags of rice and other assorted material gift items to 300 Christian and Muslim widows across the 17 local government areas (LGAs) of the state. State Coordinator of the organization, Lady Florence Hassana Abadom, made the donation of the assorted items to the widows, in Jos. Abadom said that, RAEF was founded in 2010 by Evangelist Ignatius Newman Ezeigbo, saying that, his vision was no doubt to cater for widows, especially by empowering them financially in order to eradicate poverty amongst them. She said that, the foundation through its programs has continued to touch the lives of the widows, through donation of food items, skills acquisition, medical treatment, payment of school fees and rents of indigent widows, adding that, the foundation has over 3,500 registered widows. She called on widows to continue praying for peace and unity in Plateau and beyond, adding that, there can be no meaningful development and progress in any community, states or nation that is characterized by violence. Abadom said that, in June 2014, the Abuja branch of the foundation donated 140 units of sewing machines to 140 widows, especially those who had undergone training under the supervision of the foundation. She added that, another 136 widows also received the sum of N20,000 each so as to enable them start up a small scale business, especially those who have undergone training, saying that, about 1000 bags of rice was also given to them, adding that, it was the turn of Plateau. She maintained that, the foundation which had branches in Kwara, Lagos, Plateau, Kogi, Abuja and Borno branch is no longer functioning as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency, especially in the North East. While calling on states government, she also called on spirited individuals to always partner with the organization in order to continue putting smiles on the faces of the widows. In her goodwill message, wife of the former Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Roselyn Tapgun thanked the foundation for their show of over to the widows saying that, nobody is immuned to widowhood, adding that, it can happen to anybody and advised people to stop discriminating against widows since they did not choose to be so. Mrs. Tapgun urged the widows not to see it as a defeat, but that they should see it as part of life and charged them to be part of the program, as she also promised to be part of the centre “we can’t acehieve anything without the Lord being with us, with God all things are possible”. Mrs. Selestine Eze, one of the beneficiaries who could not hide her joy appreciated the foundation for its show of concern to the benefiting widows and prayed God to reward the donor in hundred folds, for what they have been doing for widows in the country.
