RAFFA DEAN TRIBUTE ~ Denday, 16th June 2014 One of the draw - TopicsExpress

RAFFA DEAN TRIBUTE ~ Denday, 16th June 2014 One of the draw backs to reggae performances in Canada is the lack of documentation of events by film, so that folks can actually look back and see said performances. That phenomenon is still ongoing today. I cant tell you of the number of experiences that I alone have had from managing a band (IBADAN) that opened up for the likes of Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Tony Rebel and how amazing the band performed and how well they were received by the audience /s who came to see the main act, yet screamed for an encore when the band was done their set. I can only tell you these things. I have no footage to show you...sadly. Many great performances have gone unrecorded. Thank you to Michael McRobb, owner of The Cage 292 ~ a visionary that has a venue (the only one!) with live as well as DJ equipment, a dinosaur in this time but a place for us to still, thankfully celebrate those art forms ~ who did the next best thing and recorded the audio, about 40 minutes of Raffas tribute and from the photos taken, I am able to give you a better feel of the things that transpired that night, as I tried to whittle it down to a fourteen minute presentation. It isnt exactly perfectly mixed or anything but I still wanted to get this to those who wished to be there to celebrate the life of one of the greatest drummers (if not the greatest and best ever) that has performed in Canada. We were able to celebrate his talent as well as say thank you and rest in peace to a man that inspired all who showed up that night. Throughout the presentation I was also able to add in events, places, clubs that Raffa was a part of that many of us shared together. Big love to my idren Genius an old football / soccer nemesis whom I had never seen perform and with Uhuru Anderson at his side, backed by The Chronicles Dub Trio of Alexi, Jonathan and Craig Rattos, Michael James on keys, I was both surprised and impressed. Further impressive, near the end, was the heart wrenching, off the cuff, tribute by Kulcha Ites, belting out the name Raffa Dean as he serenaded his cousin. These things I get to share with you. https://youtube/watch?v=d3jJnEaMo-Y&feature=youtu.be
