RAIL CONTAINER LOADING FACILITY IN CHIPPEWA FALLS With the intentions of serving our local farming community and to provide leverage and marketing capabilities for grain commodities the River Country Co-op, a Chippewa Falls based cooperative, has recently completed a Rail Container Loading Facility in Chippewa Falls. The newly constructed facility will now begin loading shipping containers filled with locally grown grains bound for countries overseas. This new loading facility is one of the largest commodities container shipping companies in the United States and the only few duty-free rail yards of its kind in Wisconsin. The process is that shipping containers filled with grain by local farmers are delivered to the Canadian National Intermodal Facility, located off of River Street in Chippewa Falls. The containers are loaded onto rail and then travel direct and non-stop to Prince Ruppert, British Columbia where they are loaded on sea vessels and delivered to destinations in the Pacific. The cooperative expects to fill seven to ten containers each day with the estimated weight being 28 tons per container and the new operation is expected to add three full-time positions and ancillary trucking jobs for transporting grains and products. River Country Co-op was established in 1948 and has eight locations serving the Chippewa Valley, with annual sales revenue exceeding 80 million dollars and approximately 250 employees. Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation feels that this new addition is a great asset to Chippewa County and it will promote local growth and jobs for local residents.
