RAILA ODINGA endorsed by the people of Homa Bay to replace the late Senator Otieno Kajwang. By endorsing Raila Odinga to contest the Homa Bay Senate seat in the February 2, 2015 by-election, the people of Homa Bay have made history and set precedence in the conduct of politics in Kenya. Kenya borrows heavily from the American politics, and in the United States it is the norm for former presidential candidates to continue serving the American people and public in various capacities including as senators and governors. There are so many of such patriotic Americans including John McCain who was the Republic flag bearer in 2008. Secretary of State John Kerry who was the Democratic presidential candidate in 2004 invited a junior Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, the current president of the United States to give the key-note address at the Democratic Convention. On loosing the presidential election to George Bush, John Kerry continued as a Senator. But what is important is that when President Obama nominated John Kerry to replace Hillary Clinton as the Secretary of State, he, senior Senator Kerry did not for a moment, think that accepting the nomination by President Obama who was just the other day a junior Senator would be demeaning. Instead, senior Senator Kerry accepted the nomination as a national duty with humility to serve the American people. This is what we call mature politics that Kenyans must emulate. Secretary Kerry never thought that he would be stooping too low in accepting President Obamas nomination as the Secretary of State. Those who think that Raila Odinga would be stooping too low by contesting the Homa Bay Senatorial seat are propagating retrogressive and repugnant politics. I am, therefore, urging Raila Odinga to accept the endorsement by the people of Homa Bay so he can represent them ably at the Senate. After all it is the same voters in Homa Bay who have endorsed Raila Odinga who ultimately have the final say whom they want to represent them at the Senate and not the Jubilee sycophants and political brokers shouting during the day but peeing in their pants at night afraid of Raila Odinga using the Senate to ensure that devolution is a reality.
