RAIN ON THE WAY! BUT HOW MUCH? Good evening! Earlier update tonight, as we have some important information, and I am sure you just want to sit down and watch the rugby in an hour! Hope your day has been great. As I write, some thick fog is setting in, so be watchful if you’re on the roads tonight. We have a rain on the way, starting tomorrow afternoon, so read on for all the latest information. From tomorrow through to Wednesday, we expect a prolonged period of rain to affect the region. There is still significant uncertainty about rain amounts, but we feel that there is the risk of significant surface flooding once again in low lying areas. This is mainly due to the fact that we expect persistent rain to fall from early afternoon tomorrow, right through until Wednesday morning. There of course will be times where the rain is lighter, but overall it could potentially be non-stop precipitation. Areas in North Canterbury such as Kaikoura, and the South and Mid Canterbury foothills could receive the most significant falls. Christchurch will definitely get rain, there is little doubt about that, best case scenario, we get 20-40mm throughout this period, and a few puddles are created. Worst case scenario, a repeat of the last few months occurs and flooding occurs. We advise you keep up to date with latest warnings and watches on here, and on MetService.
