After being beaten in the rebounding department for much of the series, Guiao is set to impose a P100 fine for every rebound his team gives up to the Aces in Game Six of the best-of-seven series. “Pang-gasolina ko,” said Guiao in jest. Turning serious, Guiao believes that rebounding will be an important factor as Rain or Shine attempts to win back-to-back games, beginning with Sunday’s Game Six, which begins at 5 p.m. In five games in the semifinals, the Elasto Painters have been averaging only 46.4 rebounds, about 12 rebounds less than the Aces. Rain or Shine had given up at least five offensive rebounds per ballgame against its rival. With Alaska one win away from advancing – they lead the series, 3-2 – Guiao is hoping the fine will give his team some much-needed urgency. “Fine lang yun para lang may conscious effort sila na rumebound. Kasi yun ang weakness namin na department, so I don’t know if it will help, I hope it will. It didn’t help in Game Five, but hindi naman siguro yan mangyayari ng biglaan,” said Guiao. The coach added that the players will also have free rein regarding how the fines will be spent. “Para sa team yung fine, they will combine it, tapos sila bahala saan nila gusto gastusin. Once the money is earned, consolidated, bahala sila kung saan nila gagastusin yun,” added Guiao. The veteran Rain or Shine mentor believes that, aside from rebounding, the officiating will also play a role in the coming game. “We’re just concerned about the consistency of the calls,” Guiao added. “They should allow the same degree of physicality for both teams. Kung pwede sa kanila, dapat pwede rin sa amin.” “Pero nung Game Five, lalo na nung second half nung nagra-rally na yung Alaska, nag-iba na yung balance ng tawagan. I hope the league looks at that. Aside from that, I feel we’re OK. We will go all out to bring this to a Game Seven and I feel if we go through a Game Seven, we can pull it through.” -admin-
