RAIN, SEVERE STORMS & HEAT ALL EXPECTED THIS WEEK [[PLEASE SHARE]] Weve got a really interesting week of weather coming up over the next week. Were expecting temperatures across the region over the next week of between about 33°C and 37°C. Heat index values or feels like temperatures across the region are expected to be well in excess of 40°C due to the high humidity levels. An interest weather situation will be developing later in the week with a trough a low pressure system developing in Western Queensland and moving towards the coast. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS and Heavy rainfall are expected over the next few days. Thunderstorms will develop randomly throughout the district in the afternoon and/or evening over the next few days across the region. Most of the the thunderstorms that do develop will be significantly severe systems, much more than what we would typically see in the local area. The majority of the storms that do develop will be SEVERE to DANGEROUS systems with DAMAGING WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL AND HAIL a high potential from thunderstorms over the next few days. This activity has already started in Townsville and Rockhampton today, with trees down and damaging winds being observed in both Townsville and Rockhampton. Gusts of 109 km/h were recorded in Townsville this evening. This weather system WILL ALSO affect the local MACKAY region over the rest of the week and similar conditions should be anticipated for the local region. Not everyone will get storms, and noone knows whether Location A or Location B will definitely get storms or not, but storms are likely and should be relatively widespread across the region over the next few days. And as I said are LIKELY TO BE SEVERE AND/OR DANGEROUS. Locations throughout the district that do recieve thunderstorms over the next few days should expect to see rainfall totals in the vicinity of 50 to 150 millimetres. So in summary: • SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY THIS WEEK • STORMS ARE LIKELY TO INCLUDE: • DAMAGING WINDS • HEAVY RAINFALL • HAILSTONES IN SOME MORE SEVERE CELLS • RAINFALL TOTALS OF 50 TO 150 MM FROM STORMS • TEMPERATURES UP TO 33° TO 37° NEXT FEW DAYS • HEAT INDEX VALUES IN EXCESS OF 40°
