RAINER’S ROCKERS, LLC. 575 Brooklyn Avenue New Orleans, La. 70121 rainersrockers@aol WE WILL ROCK THE WORLD We don’t want to be the “cheapest”! We want to be the “BEST”!! We have been making rocking chairs for “four” generations! I met my wife while buying rocking chairs from her father, an old world Craftsman, in Nicaragua. He taught me the trade, and he was taught by his father. These two men made these chairs almost completely by hand. Now that took patience! I doubt that I would have gotten into this business if I had to build the chairs as they did. I took apart their manufacturing step by step, looking for machinery that could do each step. I did not want to automate the process, which would have needed a lot of delicate machinery, just make it easier, less laborious, and less time consuming. I wanted to enjoy making and designing chairs, and have succeeded, because I really enjoy my work. When my three sons were growing up, I brought them in to work with me in my shop. That is how they received their allowances. No work…no pay! If it had not been for some of the machinery, I doubt that they would have been very interested. They formulated many new ideas and better ways of manufacturing the various pieces. The site will be divided into two sections. The first will show chairs that I have made in the past, after I returned to the States in 1980 with my brother-in-law, at the end of the Nicaraguan revolution. He had most of his fathers skills! These we mostly sold at crafts fairs and by word of mouth, as well as on EBAY, and many won Best of Show Ribbons, 1st or 2nd place, or Award of Merit. I was even chosen for my product and featured on QVCs show of “Best 50 of 50 States in 1995. I lost my shop, as well as my machinery, exotic lumber, and supplies when Katrina flooded our shop. Our homes were also very heavily damaged and took us four years to rebuild. By the time we could concentrate on our shop once more came the housing crises. No one was thinking of buying rockers during that time, and then the recession! The main section will concentrate on chairs that we have designed since Katrina. After Katrina, my oldest son concentrated on a business that he started when he was only 20, renovating and re plastering swimming pools, which was in high demand after the flooding. One of my other sons started a home renovating business, because of his expertise in wood working. Now two of my sons, with my help, would like to reopen the shop. I would like to pass it on to the fourth generation, possibly even the fifth, as my granddaughter loves to help put sealer on swings and help paint chairs. We have designed the chairs so that they can be easily shipped by UPS, consisting of two sides, the seat with rails attached, and the back. The rockers also come detached. The chairs can be assembled in a total time of 30 minutes, with all material supplied. I have always loved building rocking chairs, especially seeing the reaction from people as they sit in one of ours that actually rocks by itself. The slightest push of your tush and it rocks. Two design points are of the utmost importance in allowing this feature. The length of the rockers and the curve and angle at which the back post enters the rocker. This allows you to lean back in the chair. You sit in the rocker, not on it. It must also be designed so that it does not tip over when rocked, the reason for the longer rocker.
