If wrong then why?? youtube OUR REPLY: Dear Raj Raj I have not met Dr Zakir Naik face to face unfortunately; I am waiting for that day! Actually you need to shed your prejudices and understand about the religion your forefathers have been following for the past thousands of years. As an Indian you should know what India stands for! Please do not preach about worship to Hindus! Hinduism is one religion which has elevated spirituality to a science – a technology by which you can realize God. Hindu Rishis have been seeking and enquiring into the realities of God, Atman, Moksha etc for thousands of years and arrived at certain conclusions which would dwarf any system of worship or religion in the whole world! You have extensively quoted from the Vedas and the Gita; have you really read them? Quoting out of context is not going to help anybody! Distorting the meaning is also not going to help anybody! BG verse 7:22: Sa thayaachrathayaa yukthasthasyaaraathana meehathe l Labathe cha thatha: kaamaanmayayva vihithanhi than ll Which means ‘with great devotion and concentration, if one worships lesser deities such as Jesus, or Mary, or Allah he gets the material things; but in reality it is I (Krishna) who bestows such things.’ If one bothers to read the same Gita, it talks about SAGUNA UPASANA and NIRGUNA UPASANA in chapter 12 verses 1-5. Upasana means prescribed method of worship. Saguna means worship with form, images or idols. Nirguna means formless worship. In the initial stages of Sadhana, an image or a form is required for ordinary humans to concentrate; when he evolves into higher stages of yoga Nirguna or formless worship is possible. Keeping the difficulties of a beginner in mind these methods are prescribed. Meditation is ultimately essential progress in the spiritual ladder. To meditate one needs concentration of the mind- this is not stressed in Judaic religions! Judaic religions stress on group worship and communion. Individual progress in the spiritual ladder and ultimate Moksha are not known to them. That is why they are so rigid and reject idol worship as if it is a crime! Besides rejection of idol worship is a old Testament teaching; it is one of the ten commandments. If you think in Idol worship we substitute the idol for the God you are mistaken. BG 12:1-5 is very clear about it. The celebration, the prostrations, the worship ultimately reaches the ultimate reality; the idols merely act as a conduit! Deep down Hinduism forbids mere worshipping; worshipping is seen as belittling Shiva, Krishna or Shakthi or any God for that matter. They are accomplished masters of yoga and energy centers of enlightenment. One is supposed to emulate them; not merely worship them. In Hinduism the ultimate aim of humans is to attain the level of a Buddha, a Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, or a Ramana Maharishi. This individual ascension through the various steps of Yoga and ultimately attaining Moksha or Divine Consciousness is unheard of in Christianity or Islam. In these religions if someone claims he is God or has Divine consciousness it is heresy and may lose his life. Some Sufi saints have lost their lives for claiming so. This is the biggest difference between Hinduism and all the one prophet, one book religions! Having set the goal, Hinduism prescribes ways of achieving it. If you care to read Bhagavad Gita, it prescribes 1. Karma Marga, 2. Jnana Marga 3. Bhakthi Marga. If these margas do not give you the Moksha you are looking for in the last chapter of BG, Krishna says Sarva dharman prithrajya mameham saranam vraja l Aham dhva sarvapapebyo mokshaishyaami maasusa ll Which means ‘ throw away all dharmas and surrender unto me, and I will wash away all sins from you and give you Moksha, don’t worry’ This is the famous Saranagathi marga popularized by the Vaishnavites. Saiva Siddhanta prescribes three types of worship 1. Aruva (formless) 2. Uruva (form) 3. Aruva- Uruva (formless- form) . The third Aruva- Uruva is the cross worship you guys do and the Linga worship we do! Let me ask you! Do you know any religion in the world which classifies these things and made spirituality into a science? Which religion offers so much freedom to the true seeker? Hinduism accepts all paths, including Christianity and Islam! It is you guys who remain in narrow confines and reject everything else! You guys maintain your religion is the truest and all others are false! This is the cause for conflict my dear friend! You tell your guys Christianity is the only true religion and they start looking down upon other religions without thinking! You want to keep your adherents in a tight leash; you hide behind a book and tell them Idol worship is not allowed. The Christians believe that without thinking! What is wrong with Idol worship? Don’t you carry the photo of your parents, wife, girl friend, child with you? What is wrong with carrying the picture of your maker? Hinduism believes in celebrating, pampering, respecting, loving, feeding, bathing, decorating your ever loving God; singing, chanting, dancing for your beloved God is also perfectly fine! In Hinduism we do not treat God as some dictator sitting high up in the heavens and watching us all the time, looking to punish you for your mistakes. Hinduism treats God as one amongst us and prescribes ways in which one can treat God. 1. Shantha Bava – as an equal 2. Saha Bava – as a friend 3. Dasa Bava – as a humble servant 4. Vatsalya Bava – as a child or parent 5.Madhura Bava- as a lover. Which religion allows you t treat God as your equal and lover? In Hiduism Idol worship is done because we have unlimited love for our God and we would like to celebrate him in every way possible!
