RALIGA On the first day of this environment I strayed in the eyes of one Fashioned as a world of promises in Romeo and Juliet On my heart I felt a substance of fun Leaping like a dear when I spoke. Fascination was a name to mention -“Raliga” and she smiled When I asked more of that word for calling her- like smoke “Oh! Methuselah” to the wind she escaped. And we explored the bookman’s gaze that followed us Along each seven days if not alpha then Omega But not all his days granted permit for us to pass Then recoiling to literacy we would share papered work over RALIGA. Until exams demanded repercussion to match with our experiment All these years she sits her back to RALIGA and me, an unwanted science for a student. TYPE OF POETRY: Shakespearean sonnet ANALYSIS: When the persona arrives at his new school, he sets his eyes on a girl he can’t resist. Her name is Methuselah. When he asks her out “Raliga” she likes the idea though she avoids him for some time before consenting to his proposal “like smoke…oh Methuselah to the wind she vanishes”. Soon a lecturer notices them; they would occasionally meet on Mondays and Sundays, they would have their class work discussions together-over love or RALIGA. But it will seem at the end that the ‘eye’ that gazed on them makes them pay dearly during exams. Due to this failure Methuselah is mad at love and the persona; she calls the love affair a bad experiment for a student. RALIGA: means love
