RALPH OKONYE SHUNS AKAEZE’S SUMMON OVER N58m FRAUD The former President General of Ubulu Uku Development Council (UDC), Mr Ralph Okonye has declined a summon by the sitting Obi of Ubulu Uku, Akaeze Ofulue over an alleged fraud said to have been perpetrated by the former. The monarch had last week invited the former deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, Mr Ralph Okonye and one Mr Paul Odiakaose, a Warri-based businessman cum politician to deliberate on certain money that was believed to have been diverted by Mr Okonye. According to local sources, Chief Elue had invested some amount of money through Mr Okonye to execute some jobs few years ago. After some time, it was discovered that over N58 million have been allegedly embezzled without the execution of the job. This prompted Chief Elue to take the matter to the Royal Palace for mediation. The sitting Obi however, invited both parties to settle the matter amicably, once and for all. On the appointed day, Chief Elue and Mr Paul Odiakaose showed up but were surprised that Mr Okonye who was the bone of contention could not show up. Even Akaeze was also said to have been away that very day leaving his guests disappointed. The absence of the sitting Obi and Mr Okonye further angered the former deputy governor who had left the National Confab and came all the way from Abuja with different kinds of documents and a team of legal practitioners to enlighten Akaeze what transpired between him and Mr Ralph Okonye. Recall that it was this same Chief Elue who facilitated the staff of office given to the sitting Obi during the inglorious reign of Governor James Ibori. The Obior-born chief was however, said to be very furious with anger as he left Ubulu Uku frustrated without any result. Although Mr Odiakaose was said not to be involved in the embezzlement but was equally summoned to throw more light on what he knew about the business transaction in form of a witness. The reason for the absence of the sitting Obi and Mr Okonye is yet unknown. UE had few months ago reported about the financial misappropriation that involved the former leader of UDC.
