RAMA NAVAMI PRASADHAM Panagam, Neer Moor, Sunth Sakhar (dry - TopicsExpress

RAMA NAVAMI PRASADHAM Panagam, Neer Moor, Sunth Sakhar (dry ginger mized with sugar), Vadai, Vadapappu, (Moong dhal Sundal), Kosumri and Payasam are some of the items made during Rama Navami festival at home. On road sides, people set up pandals (Tents) to supply Neer Moor and Panagam stored in large earthern pots, to passers by. These items are also prepared at the temples and distributed as prasadams to the devotees who come to seek the blessings of God. All the above-mentioned foodstuffs can be taken to bring down the body heat. They also make up for the loss of body fluids due to the excessive perspiration. Apart from the above, in olden days, there was a custom to gift hand-made fans to other people. Since there were no electric fans then, to reduce the effect of the heat, these hand-operated fans were very useful during the summer months. It was indeed a thoughtful gesture. The prasdhams for Ramanavami are simple dishes in contrast to elaborate preparations for other festivals. They are made out of respect and remembrance of the hard 14 years that Lord Rama spent in the forest. It is even believed that Sita Devi and Lakshmana were able to make Panakam, Neermore & Vadapappu for Sri Rama during their Dhanadakaranya days for this special occasion. Sita Devi had her own garden, some sweet roots, ginger, Moongdhal, milk from wild goats, and cows, butter, honey and the milk of the coconut were available to them. Also one should remember, Saint Bharadwaja had given them a special blessings that in the Dhandaka forest all kinds of fruits, vegetables and vegetations, would always be available for them on their way in abundance without any seasonal restrictions. Panagam or Mango Panagam, Neer Moor, Sunth Sakhar (dry ginger mixed with sugar), Vadapappu (Pasiparuppu sundal), Kosumri (carrot moog salad) are the main Prasadhas made during Rama Navami. The Lord said that he would be satisfied with milk in Swaparayugam, with ghee in Threthayugam and with panagam (jaggery water) in Kaliyugam. WISHING ALL A HAPPY RAMA NAVAMI SEASON
