RANDOM AAs must move away from blind mass duplication of majority community behavior, media, etc. We can and have the ultra-talent in our culture and community to create our own images and art...clearly. HipHop culture alone has proven that. Remaking Annie, Black faced SantanClauses, BlackBarbies, etc. were accomplishments in the early 20th century. Now, they are socio-intellectual restraints at worst, and socio-cultural slaps in the face to majority cultures and money makers only at best. Either way, they are not progressive. We dont need Idris Elba to play the Ian Flemings Bond character. We have our own: Walter Moselys Ezekiel Easy Rollins Michael Jai Whites character in the recent film Falcon Rising Wesley Snipes made history with the Blade franchise Samuel Jacksons re-engagement of the Shaft role, hell, even a Django sequel would work better. What better image than a rebellious, former slave turned bounty hunter, who risked everything to save his family, and who in the end, not only managed to save her, but also saved/freed other slaves and rode off into the sunset. Sounds like a hell of a springboard for a sequel. Bottom line, we can do better. We should.
