RANDOM THOUGHTS:- These days, I have learnt how to critically look at online reports and peruse them carefully before believing them. I learnt this lesson in January, 2012 during the dark days of the Petrol subsidy Protests when darkness and falsehood reigned supreme in the nation. As the protests raged, a news item was posted online and it spread like wildfire that Nigerias President, Goodluck Jonathan had travelled to Switzerland with an entourage of over 500 people. Yet here I was in my house watching a live broadcast of Jonathan launching the buses procured to supposedly cushion the effect of petroleum price hike from the Eagles square in Abuja!!! Yesterday, a news item of a supposed letter written to Jonathan by IBB spread like wildfire on the internet ably aided by a horde of copy and paste pseudo-journalists on the social media. Today, IBB has denied ever writing any such letter. Now, I wonder what Sahara reporters had in mind when writing the fictitious report. What was their intent? Who sponsored it? Must we allow such reports go without proper sanctions? Where lies the conscience of the media? A final question that bothers my mind is this; why does falsehood find a highly fertile ground in the minds of man even while truth struggle to find space. In other words, why is it easier to believe false reports yet it is easier to jettison true reports? My dear readers, endeavour to purify your hearts.... 9JA 4 LIFE
